On May 27th, 2023, Girls Tech Together hosted an AI and Robotics workshop that brought together students from more than 15 different schools and three states (Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey). The kids were aged 8-13, and joined us for a day of interactive learning and exploration.

One of the highlights of the workshop was the opportunity for students to train their own AI models. Under the guidance of our experienced mentors, the young participants were introduced to the fundamentals of AI and its various applications. They learned about the concept of machine learning and its role in enabling computers to learn and make decisions independently. Using user-friendly tools and software, the students were able to train their AI models to recognize images, and identify certain objects.

The incorporation of robotics, particularly the utilization of Spheros (small spherical robots that can be programmed to perform various tasks), added another layer of excitement and challenge to the workshop. Guided by our dedicated mentors, the students used their critical thinking skills and knowledge to program the Spheros to navigate through a maze while adhering to certain restrictions. This hands-on experience with robotics showcased the practical applications of coding and further inspired their passion for the field.
